22 Ways to Reduce Costs in Existing Projects

It’s no secret that many projects and companies face some losses due to changes in consumer habits and upcoming market shifts. Here, I will present several ideas to reduce costs, and hopefully, you will find something useful, God willing.

We will focus on three main sections: (Employees, Production, Finance). In the name of God, let’s begin.

Employees:

• Train employees to perform multiple tasks, allowing them to take on more than one job in preparation for potential job reductions. Let’s always remember that we may lose some jobs, but the project will continue, and the income for remaining jobs will persist. The project may even recover and grow, hiring new employees later.
• Cancel overtime allowances.
• Offer early retirement options to senior employees.
• For unpaid leave, encourage partial cooperation rather than letting some employees lose their jobs.
• Increase working hours to boost productivity and link it to performance bonuses.
• Turn employees into shareholders by selling some stock to them, which will increase productivity.
• Lay off and cancel certain positions.
• Implement comprehensive wage reductions from top to bottom.

Production:

• Invest in technology.
• Merge production areas to increase efficiency and reduce expenses.
• Establish flexible production lines that do not require a minimum number of workers.
• Reduce inventory as much as possible using Just-In-Time (JIT).
• Implement outsourcing.
• Renegotiate with suppliers.
• Consolidate suppliers as much as possible to strengthen negotiation power and reduce logistical expenses.
• Import some high-cost parts from the local market.

Finance:

• Encourage customers to pay faster if you sell on credit, for example, by offering discounts for early payment – shorten the credit period.
• Refinance your debts – there are companies that buy debts.
• Sell non-essential or unused assets.
• Renegotiate insurance companies or change policy specifications.
• Renegotiate with the property owner, no matter how convinced you are that they won’t lower the rent.
• Address late-paying customers.

There are many other areas where costs can be reduced, but from an administrative perspective, these could be the most impactful without affecting the quality of products and services.
