You want to start a business, but what is the right idea and what is the suitable project you want to begin with?
In fact, this is the most common question I face as a consultant for small businesses, and I always say that when you start thinking about entering the business world, you’ve already taken the first step.
You will find many projects appearing in front of you and disappearing quickly. When one appears, you think for a moment about a specific project and ask yourself: "Is this the project that will succeed?"
You might even start presenting this idea to some of your close friends and try hard to prove that it is a successful project. Of course, you will get into a big debate and try to prove that this is the successful project. You might even get into an argument with some of your friends if they challenge the idea and try to prove it won’t succeed or even point out some obstacles.
But the surprising thing is that after a short time, you find yourself letting go of that project, even though it is a successful one with examples close to you.
So, do these ideas and projects come up for no reason? The truth is that everyone looking for a business idea has gone through these moments. You may be surprised when you look at the history of successful entrepreneurs and some of the projects they started, and how different they were from the giant businesses they have now.
Many people think that the conflict of ideas and different projects is a sign of confusion for the business owner, but as a consultant specializing in small businesses, I see it as a healthy process, though it should not continue for too long.
Rest assured, you are now on the right path to choosing the business idea you've always dreamed of. But before we start, let’s clarify an important point. Many people often wonder if now is the right time to start their business.
I say clearly, yes, now is the right time. If you don’t start now, when will you start?
Let’s look at some numbers. In the United States, about 600,000 businesses are started annually. Every year, nearly a million Americans say, “This year, I will start my business,” but they end up starting nothing.
Why? It’s the fear of the unknown. The fear of failure. The fear of loss. The fear of not coming up with a great and innovative business idea.
Let’s discuss the last point:
Does the business idea need to be new and unprecedented, i.e., innovative? Does it have to be a groundbreaking idea like the invention of the computer or the iPhone?
What’s your opinion?
